Abstract

851,695. Luminescent screens. MALLINCKRODT CHEMICAL WORKS. July 14, 1959, No. 24228/59. Class 39(1). An X-ray intensifying screen comprises a sheet of substantially X-ray transparent supporting material and a fluorescent coating comprising a thallium activated alkali metal iodide and a pigment having a refractive index not substantially less than 1À7 and low absorptivity for light in the blue-violet-ultraviolet region of the spectrum. The coating includes an organic polymeric binder and the external surface of the coating may have a thin moisture proof film which may be of the same material as the barium lead sulphate, zinc sulphide titanium or zirconium dioxides, calcium titanate zinc or magnesium oxide, examples being given of suitable proportions of pigment to phosphor. Specification 833,733 is referred to.
