Abstract
851,472. Thermal switches. BULPITT & SONS Ltd. Jan. 7, 1957 [Jan. 7, 1956], No. 625/56. Class 38 (5). In a switch for a heater element wire-holding terminals are each connected to the element over spring blade contacts normally engaging fixed contacts, a member being operable by a thermally releasable device to deflect the blades and open the circuit, this being the sole means for normal isolation of the heater. In one form, Figs. 1, 2, the spring blades 21 carry contacts 22 normally engaging contacts 23 on terminals 27. On release by the thermal device, which may be of the bi-metallic or fusible metal type, a plunger 14, 19 is moved to the right, Fig. 2, so that a transverse rod 20 engages bowed parts 24 of the blades and cams the contacts open. The switch is reclosed by pushing the plunger to the left, Fig. 2. In a modification, Fig. 8, the blades 34 are U-shaped and arranged transversely of the direction of movement of the plunger so as to be separated from fixed contacts 39 by a rod 38 on rightward movement of the plunger.
