Abstract

1,108,596. Thermal switches. PROCESS CONTROL GEAR Ltd. 30 July, 1965 [5 Aug., 1964], No. 31866/64. Heading H1N. In a snap-action thermostat of the rod-andtube type the contact elements are insulatingly mounted in a stack in which insulating blocks 8, 9, 10, 11, alternate with metal contact or terminal elements 12, 13, 14, each having a non-circular aperture into which a projection on an adjacent block fits (Figs. 4-6, not shown), and a screw 18 holds the stack together and secures it to the base-plate 1 of the thermostat. The operating temperature is adjusted by a knob 26 rotating a sleeve 24 secured to a yoke member 4 attached to the rod 3. A further screw 25 is adjustable to vary pressure on the, switch blade 5. The main contacts 6, 15 are in circuit with auxiliary contacts (36), (38), (Figs. 10, 11, not shown), controlled by a fusible element holding a rod (43) so as to keep contacts (36), (38) closed against the force of spring strip (35). Excessively high temperature melts the fusible element and spring strip (35) separates contacts (36), (38), as it pushes rod (43) away. The contact elements 12, 13, 14, are exchangeable for elements (123), (143), (Figs. 8, 9 and 13-15, not shown) to make the thermostat a normally open switch. Fixed contact (143c) is adjustable.
