Abstract
851,203. Crossheads; piston rods. BALDELLI, G. Nov. 18, 1958 [Dec. 18, 1957], No. 37112/58. Class 122 (1). [Also in Group XXVIII] The stroke of a piston 2 is varied by means of a lost motion connection to the drive means. A sleeve 4 is reciprocated by the drive means and the end of the piston rod 3 carrying adjustable abutment 7 is movable relative to the sleeve to an extent limited by the engagement of the end 18 of the rod with the bottom of the sleeve 4 and the engagement of the abutment 7 with a bush 17 screwed into the sleeve 4. The depth of insertion of the bush 17 into the sleeve 4 to the extent of providing a rigid connection between the rod 3 and sleeve 4 is variable by means of a gear 20 which engages teeth 19 on the bush 17, the gear 20 being rotatable by means of a-shaft 21 and knob 22.
