Abstract

849,933. Hydraulic couplings. SCHWITZER CORPORATION. Sept. 23, 1957 [May 31, 1957], No. 29797/57. Class 69 (2). A coupling consists of a rotor 19 and a casing 14, 15 attached to the driven shaft, the motion being transmitted by the shearing force of the liquid. The rotor 19, as shown in Fig. 3, consists of two plates, divided at their outermost parts by a gap 23 and a hub 28 which forms a reservoir. By means of ports 25, and 29 and 26 in the rotor, circulation of liquid for cooling purposes is set up between the bearing surfaces 24 of the plates 20, 21 and the casing, and between the hub bearing surface 39 and the casing surface 31. The outer surface 39 of the hub 28 and the outer surface 24 of the plates 20, 21 are lined with cork or similar material. The circulation is aided by tangential grooves in the part of casing 14 co-acting with the plates 20, 21 and grooves in the lining 39 of the hub 28.
