The bearing elements b may be replaced by an annular member, the bearing surface of which may be interrupted at marginal zones Z, Fig. 5 (not shown), which coincide with the feet a. The bearing yields elastically under load to form hydrodynamic wedges of pressurized fluid. The wedges increase in size as the loading of the bearing becomes greater.
