Abstract

849,336. Cycle spring forks. TRIUMPH ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Dec. 11, 1958 [Jan. 8, 1958], No. 708/58. Class 136(3). In a suspension for the front wheel of a motor scooter or light motor-cycle the wheel 39 is mounted on a spindle 28 which is rigidly held at one end only in the lower end of an assembly comprising two parallel telescopic limbs of which the axes are in a plane at right angles to the axis of the spindle, a spring or springs 19 for supporting the load on the wheel being housed in one limb and an hydraulic dashpot being housed in the other limb. The telescopic limbs comprise parallel tubes 14 secured at their upper ends in a fork crown 10 extending laterally from the lower end of a steering stem 12, and rigidly interconnected sleeves in which the lower parts of the tubes 14 are slidably engaged. The sleeves 15 are integral with a circular housing which forms the lock plate of a shoe-drum brake. One end of the wheel spindle 20 is connected by a nut 27 to a boss 26 projecting from the inner face of the housing 16. The sleeves 15 are rigidly connected above the housing 16 by a web 17.
