Abstract

585,904. Spring forks. ROBSON, F. T. Dec. 18, 1944, No. 25333. [Class 136 (iii)] A spring fork for a bicycle consists of (a) an inner member associated with the wheel, comprising two tubular members 15 the upper ends of which are connected by a bridge piece 16 the lower ends being crimped to form lugs 26 for carrying the mudguard and stays 27; (b) an outer member for attachment to the cycle frame comprising two tubes 12 in each of which one of the inner members 15 slides and including an upper part 11 which encloses the bridge piece 16 and has lugs 14 spaced along it for connecting the outer assembly detachably to the pivoted steering head tube 13 of the cycle frame, and (c) resilient shock-absorbing mechanism such as a spring 21 abutting against a piston 22 contained in a tubular portion 18 fixed to the mudguard and depending from the bridge piece 16. The spring may be replaced by rubber or by hydraulic or other shock-absorbing mechanism. The annular space 31 between the members 12 and '15 may be packed with grease to lubricate upper and lower bearings 17. The fork may be formed of a single tube bent to U-shape.
