848,916. Extending ladders. MORRIS; J. Jan. 30, 1958 [Nov. 2, 1956], No. 33506/56. Class 20(2) The uprights of the sections of a telescopic extension ladder each comprise two parallel strips 7 bolted together with the ends of the rungs 9, which are all of the same length, as spacers and stops prevent the ladder sections disengaging. In the ladder shown in Fig. 1 with the sections 5, 6 separated, the upper section 5 is held between the uprights of the lower section 6 by brackets 11 on the section 6 the lower brackets 11 limiting the extension by engaging the stops 16a on the extension 5 the lower end of which engages a rubber stop 16 when the ladder is collapsed. A pawl 14 holds two rungs, one of each section, at each stage of elevation and is operated by an endless rope 12 by which also the ladder is extended. The brackets 11 are adjustable to accommodate the section 5.
