Abstract

843,156. Roller conveyers. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Oct. 29, 1958, No. 34706/58. Class 78(1). Tubeless tyres after assembly on wheel rims are transported by a roller conveyer 1 to a position below an inflating station provided with means for stopping the assembly, this means causing also the actuation of means 5 for raising and lowering the assembly to and from the inflating apparatus. The conveyer feeds the assemblies by gravity and consists of two parallel series of short rollers which support the tyres 2 but allow the rims 3 to pass between them. The movement of an assembly is stopped when its rim comes into contact with a roller 21 mounted on a lever 10 which is pivoted at 11. The roller 21 is carried by an upward extension 20 of a lever 15 which is pivoted at 16 between bifurcations 13 forming the upper end of the lever 10. A spring-actuated plunger 18 mounted in the lever 10 tends to rotate the lever 15 clockwise. The right hand end 23 of the lever 15 rests on a roller 24 which is mounted in an arm 22 fast on a shaft 25. Another arm 26, also fast on the shaft, carries a roller 27 which is situated between two of the rollers 1. When the leading edge of the tyre engages the roller 21, the roller follows the contour of the tyre until it contacts the rim. During this movement the lever 15 turns clockwise until the stop 19 on it comes into contact with the bifurcations 13. When this occurs the lever 10 turns and closes the microswitch 8a controlling the actuating of the lifting table 5. After inflation since there is no gap between the tyre and rim, the latter can ride over the roller 21 and the assembly continues its travel. When the roller 27 is depressed by the tyre, it causes retraction of the roller 21 to prevent the lifting operation being initiated by contact with the trailing edge of the rim. Specification 840,076 is referred to.
