Abstract
The invention comprises anti-diabetic salts of blood-sugar lowering sulphonyl ureas with biguanides of the formula: <FORM:0842925/IV(b)/1> wherein R is hydrogen or methyl, and their preparation by treating the sulphonyl urea with the biguanide, preferably in an aqueous or alcoholic medium. The biguanide is suitably reacted in the form of its hydrochloride, in which case the reaction is carried out in the presence of an alkali-metal hydroxide, e.g. sodium hydroxide, or the sulphonyl urea is used in the form of an alkali-metal or alkaline earth metal salt. Specified salts include the N1-dimethyl-biguanide salts of N1-sulphanilyl-N2-butyl-, N1-p-toluenesulphonyl-N2-butyl-, N1-(4-methyl -3-amino-benzenesulphonyl)-N2-butyl (and N2-cyclohexyl) and N1-p-chlorobenzenesulphonyl-N2-3-methoxypropyl-, urea.
