842,688. Moulding rubber soles on to footwear uppers. LUDWIG, H., [trading as DEUTSCHE SPEZIALMASCHINEN CO. U. E. LUDWIG Komm.-Ges.]. June 23, 1958 [July 1, 1957], No. 19982/58. Class 87(2). A mould for vulcanising rubber soles on to footwear uppers comprises a frame and a cover plate and a toe-cap moulding piece, the latter two components being interchangeable and provided with sealing edges and constructed so that either the cover plate can be used for producing footwear without vulcanised rubber toe-caps or the toe-cap moulding piece can be used for producing footwear with vulcanised rubber toe-caps. In Fig. 2 is shown the cover plate 34 attached to the mould frame 16 by screws 35 with the sealing edge 34a contacting the upper 30. In order to provide toecaps, the cover. plate 34 is removed, Fig. 6, and replaced by the toe-cap moulding piece 18 secured to a lever arm 20, actuation of which is effected by the piston rod 17 slidable in the cylinder 13. The supply and discharge of compressed air or pressure liquid to the cylinder 13 is by means of the pipes 7. With the toe-cap moulding piece 18 in position as shown in Fig. 6, the sole rubber can flow up during the vulcanising operation and cover the toe of the shoe as far as the seal formed by the sealing edge 18b.
