Abstract

In a root crop harvesting machine in which the crop is carried away from the shares by one or more elevators each comprising straight rod links extending transversely across the length of the web and connected together in spaced substantially parallel relationship, each link 13 has end sections 15 which are straight and collinear and a central section 14 which is of serrated form. The outer end of each section 15 is formed as a transversely extending hook 17 which hingedly embraces the end section 15 of an adjacent link. An auxiliary conveyer of similar construction may be disposed in an inverted condition above the conveyer shown in Fig. 3. A conveyer composed of substantially straight links 27 may be converted into a conveyer of the kind described (1) by welding an auxiliary serrated rod 24, Fig. 11, to it at the points 23, or (2) by clamping plates 25, 30, Fig. 12, to it, the plate 25 being formed with serrations 29 and each plate having a groove to receive the link 27.
