841,606. Making boards from straw. RYBERG, N. Aug. 20, 1958 [Aug. 30, 1957], No. 26784/58. Class 96. In a machine for making boards &c. for building use, straw is fed by a conveyer belt 1 to the space between adjustably-positioned upper and lower walls 3, 4 of a compacting channel, the walls being slotted at their receiving ends to accommodate travelling chains 11 with pins 12 which project into the straw. The straw is preferably heated electrically to soften its binding substances. In modifications, the walls 3, 4 are convergent in the direction of feed, and the inner runs of the chains 11 are curved; instead of chains 11, the pins 12 are secured to connecting-rods, each rod having a bearing on a wheel at each end.
