Abstract

841,376. Shaping uppers of shoes. STANDARD ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Sept.11, 1958 [Sept. 11, 1957], No. 28617/57. Class 17(1) The heel part of an upper incorporating mouldable stiffening is shaped between two moulds B & D, the latter mould being inflatable. The upper is placed around inner mould B and pincers F grip the upper and pull it tightly round the mould. Valve H is then actuated to allow air to pass to cylinder J, a piston inside the cylinder moving mould D to contact the upper; admittance of further air to cylinder J causes the cylinder to move back on link K which opens valve M allowing a diaphragm inside mould D to be inflated. The feather line may be impressed on the upper by having the diaphragm cover such an area that the upper is forced into engagement with the edge of the inner mould. The mould B incorporates an electric heater C. Specification 810,735 is referred to.
