Abstract

835,863. Expanding-pulley gearing. ALLISCHALMERS MANUFACTURING CO. July 4, 1958 [July 5, 1957], No. 21591/58. Class 80 (2). A lubricating arrangement for an expanding- pulley system comprises a lubricator cup 58 feeding to a circumferential groove 59 in the transmission shaft 11 and communicating with a series of grooves 50 in keys 48 let into the shaft, each groove having a series of spaced metering holes 55 supplying the lubricant to a localized rectangular area 61 of the bearing surface of the pulley lugs 25, such area being defined by a continuous groove 60 in which is embedded a sealing element such as an 0-ring 62. The sealing element 62 in addition to preventing leakage of lubricant, also serves as a cushion to reduce vibration. In the arrangement shown comprising two pairs of pulley elements 13, 16 with interdigitated integral lugs 20, 25, the respective sets of elements are coupled together by bolts 30, 31 and connected to members 38, 38a with external screw-threads of opposite hands engaging a rotary sleeve 40 by which the pulley spacing may be adjusted. Leakage of lubricant along the shaft 11 is prevented by a circumferential 0-ring 67 let into a groove in the left-hand disc element 13.
