In a countershaft reduction gear for a mining conveyer or coal plough wherein, to provide increased load capacity, it may be necessary to increase the diameter of the shafts and hence their bearings 23 ... 27, the consequent reduction and weakening of the adjacent clamping area between the two flange-bolted shells 10, 11 of a casing, which is split in the common shaft plane, is avoided by the provision of separate bearing end coverings 36 . . . 38 attached to the casing shells and also connected therewith by axial close- or drive-fit dowel pins 32, whereby the covers provide a casing clamping stress additional to that provided by the remaining casing flange-bolts 29.
