Abstract
834,788. Gas burners. ASCOT GAS WATER HEATERS Ltd. July 11, 1956 [July 11, 1955], No. 20016/55. Class 75(1) [Also in Group XIII] A burner for a gas-fired appliance such as a water heater comprises a gas supply pipe leading to a flared burner mouth containing a series of spaced longitudinally extending strips whose depth is variable along a strip such that, in use, the burner produces flames substantially constant in height along the length of the burner mouth. As shown, incorporated in the water heater of a domestic central heating system (see Group XIII) a plurality of the burners are placed side by side on a burner support bar 13, Fig. 5, each burner comprising a pipe 15 of sheet metal formed of two parts welded together along a longitudinal seam and the lower end of which is belled slightly and secured in a hole in the support bar, the said hole being vertically over an injector disposed in a manifold spaced from the bar 13 to provide for the admission of air to the burner. The upper end of the pipe is flared outwardly to form a burner mouth of rectangular from 18, Fig. 6, of width equal to the diameter of the pipe 15 at the start of the flare, the diameter of the pipe increasing from the connection of the pipe with the support bar 13 and, secured inside the mouth by bolts 19, Fig. 6, are a plurality of spaced strips 20 of metal arranged parallel with the longer side of the mouth and having the shape shown in Fig. 4, local variations in the contour depending upon specific requirements to produce a flame of constant height along the burner.
