Abstract
1,016,595. Regenerative air heaters. JONES & LAUGHLIN STEEL CORPORATION. Sept. 11, 1962 [Sept. 21, 1961], No. 34709/62. Headings F4B and F4K. A regenerative air heating stove 1 comprises a vertical elongated regenerative chamber 5 connected at its upper end with an unobstructed columnar combustion chamber 4 having an outer wall 2, a plurality of premixing gas burners 6, 7 set in the outer wall one above the other into which combustion gas is supplied at right angles to combustion air, each burner being positioned to direct a flame transversely of the combustion chamber. Each burner has means 12 for introducing gas radially of the burner and means 11 for introducing combustion air axially of the burner. Premixing the combustion gases in this way produces a whirling turbulent flame which is introduced transversely of the combustion chamber thus inhibiting the formation of standing waves which cause the pulsation effect sometimes found in regenerative air heating stoves.
