Class 75(3) In a lighter using liquefied gas the gasflow control valve fitting 1, which may be permanently fitted as by soldering to the fuel tank, comprises an externally adjustable screwed sleeve 25 which bears on the flange of an inverted cup 15 having a peripheral packing 16 and slidable in the valve fitting 1 and containing in its interior a porous body 17 e.g. of paper to variably compress such body 17 against a fixed abutment piece 11 on which the inverted cup 15 telescopically slides and on a head of which abutment piece 11 are positioned portions of wicks 12 by which the fuel, in liquid phase, is fed into contact with the porous body 17, the fuel then evaporating from the top of the porous body to pass in gaseous phase, through a small bore in the base of the inverted cup 15 when operation of the lighter mechanism causes the normally downwardly urged burner stem 32 to remove a valve pad 34 (housed in a hollow piston-like head of the stem) from the exit end of the bore 19. The porous body is compressed to different degrees over its surface by reason of the head of the abutment piece being of convex form and the porous body has a marginal portion spaced away from the inner side wall of the cup so that by raising the valve pad 34 and easing back the screwed compressing sleeve 25 the casing may be refilled with liquid fuel which can pass by the bore 19 to the now unobstructed space below the base of the inverted cup and so to the wicks 12 and into the casing.
