895,933. Lighters using liquefied gas. NEWMAN, S. H. Nov. 18, 1960 [Dec. 8, 1959], No. 39796/60. Class 75(3) A regulator for adjusting the height of the flame of a lighter using liquefied gas and adapted to be fixed to the reservoir thereof comprises a disc-like porous mass 27 disposed between the bottom of a cup 21 and the top of a wick carrier 23, a threaded cap 7 adapted to be screwed into the body 1 of the regulator to increase the pressure on the porous mass 27 and thereby shorten the flame and a screw 34 adapted to be screwed through the wall of the regulator to apply pressure to a rubber sleeve 32 between the cup 21 and an annular projection 28 on the wick carrier 23 so that the rubber sleeve increases in length to reduce the pressure on the porous mass 27 and thus increase the flame. The lower end of the wick carrier 23 abuts a disc 30 of light elastic material resting on a shoulder in the body 1. The screw 34 is rotated by a gear wheel 36. A burner tube 11 slides in an aperture in the cap 7 and carries at its lower end a synthetic rubber obturator 15 adapted to close a gas duct 19 in the cup 21. The burner tube is forced downwardly by an elastic body 18 and is lifted to open the duct 19 by an operating lever adapted to engage a groove 17 in the burner tube. The gas passes into the burner tube through radial ducts 13.
