832,878. Buffers; friction-type shockabsorbers. SOC. APPLICAZIONI GOMMA ANTIVIBRANTI SAGA S.p.A. March 12, 1958 [March 14, 1957], No. 7969/58. Classes 103(5) and 108(3) A shock absorbing arrangement for buffers and the like comprises, a metal friction ring 14 which may be expanded against the casing 1 when large shocks are received by movement together of cups 11, 12 opposed by a hard rubber spring 13, a pile of softer rubber rings 15 retained axially aligned by ribbed separators 16, and a tie rod 19 whereby the damping assembly can be removed as a unit. Slots 5 and 6 in the axially movable plunger 3 co-operate with a fixed bolt 7, and the spring damping assembly is pre-compressed in the extended position. The rings 15 can absorb small shocks without causing the friction damper to operate, and the spring 13 may also comprise a pile of rings with separating discs.
