Abstract
858,457. Packing case fittings. METALASTIK Ltd. Oct. 23, 1957 [Oct. 24, 1956], No. 32426/56. Class 18. [Also in Group XXXII] A mounting 12, 13 for carrying delicate equipment 11 in a container 10 is supported on springs 14, and shock absorbers 21 act between the mounting and the container to provide a damping force proportional to the velocity of deflection of the equipment relative to the container. The springs 14 each comprise concentric tubes 18, 19 bonded together by a tapering ring 20 of rubber having a linear loaddeflection characteristic. The hydraulic shock absorbers 21 are such that the energy absorbed is proportional to the relative velocity between the telescopic elements 22, 23. The inner telescopic element 22 is connected by an inwardly tapering rubber mounting 29, Fig. 4, to a bracket 25 secured to the container. The shock absorbers and the springs are matched so that the deflection for a given maximum load is about one half that for a simple spring.
