Abstract
831,205. Switching systems for substitution loads. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Nov. 27, 1957 [Nov. 27, 1956], No. 36314/56. Class 38 (4). In a circuit having a primary load 1, 2, and a secondary load 8 arranged to be connected in substitution by a switch means R1, a relay R2 is arranged in a common lead controlling the switch means so that if the primary load becomes open-circuited, the switch means is rendered ineffective after several switching operations, by means of a thermistor 18. Coil R11 of relay R1 is operated through a switch S and a three-way fuse 14-16, which is arranged to disconnect coil R11 only when the current through thermistor 18 rises due to contacts 13 of relay 2 closing successively. Capacitor C allows a small idling current to pass through the thermistor to reduce the effect of ambient temperature variations. A series resistor 17 is provided to improve the thermal stability of thermistor 18. The arrangement may be used to switch an auxiliary load in an airfield identification beacon circuit.
