Abstract
809,391. Thermal switches; electromagnetic relays. SIGNAL-STAT CORPORATION. Jan. 25, 1957 [June 6, 1956], No. 2869/57. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XXXVIII] The snap-action switch of Specification 769,505 is modified by mounting the vane 10 on a magnetic core 20, the contact 18 carried by the vane co-operating with a fixed contact 27 insulatingly carried by a part 23 of the core. The contact 27 is connected to one end of a winding 25 on the core, the other end of said winding being connected to a terminal 31. The latter is adapted to be connected to the battery 55 and is connected to a heater 45 wound on and connected to a " hot-wire " 40 attached at its ends to the vane 10. The core 20 is connected to a terminal 32 adapted to be connected to a selector switch 50 for vehicle indicator lamps SL, SL<SP>1</SP>. When switch 50 is closed one way or the other, a circuit is completed through the core 20, the vane 10, wire 40, heater 45, terminal 31 and the battery. The wire 40 then expands and allows the vane 10 to snap over to close contacts 18, 27. This completes a circuit through core 20, vane 10, contacts 18, 27, winding 25 and terminal 31. The heater 45 is thereby shorted so that the wire 40 begins to cool and the lamps SL, SL<SP>1</SP> are lit; also the winding 25 is energized to attract an armature 35 carried by a spring 37 so as to close contacts 38, 33<SP>1</SP> in the circuit of a pilot lamp PL. When the wire 40 has cooled, contacts 18, 27 re-open and heater 45 is again effective, the attraction exerted on the vane 10 by the winding 25 assisting the snap opening. Specifications 765,755 and 769,506 also are referred to.
