Abstract

827,427. Windscreen wipers. ANDERSON CO. Oct. 17, 1957 [Dec. 3, 1956], No. 32452/57. Class 138(1). A windshield wiper arm capable of applying a controlled pressure to the blade comprises a first section 10 mounted on a shaft 11 pivotally connected to a second section 12 by means of a pin 13. A U-shaped support 50 is capable of pivoting about an edge 53. by means of an adjusting screw 62. A bracket 56, consisting of two parallel sides 57, a cross-piece 58, and inturned toes 59 which engage pivotally in apertures 55 in the support 50, bears at its other extremity on cover plate 22. A spring 47 is attached at one end 60 to cross-piece 58 and at its other end it engages an aperture in an extension of disc 39 which forms a part of a clutch provided for the adjustment of the arc of rotation of the wiper blade. Adjustment of the screw 62 pivots bracket 50 about edge 53 and thereby moves the end 60 of spring 47 with respect to its other end, thus varying the tension in the spring and the pressure applied by the arm of the wiper blade.
