Class 47 A fire extinguishing composition especially suitable for extinguishing metal fires comprises a mixture of trimethoxyboroxine and an halogenated hydrocarbon. The halogenated hydrocarbon, which may be methyl iodide, may be present in an amount of from 5 to 10% by weight of the total mixture. An aerosal propellant in the form of an halogenated hydrocarbon may be added to the composition to expel the composition from a gas-tight container. The halogenated hydrocarbon may be a fluorinated methane, e.g. dichlorodifluoromethane.
