826,279. Heating buildings; hot water supply systems. BROSENIUS, K. H. April 17, 1957 [April 18, 1956], No. 12548/57. Classes 64(1) and 64(2) An insulated hot water tank 2, with an expansion tank 24, contains a heat exchanger 20 (in which a domestic water supply is heated) and is connected through a pump 17 to radiators 16a or other heat consumers, the pump being controlled for intermittent operation by a thermostat 18 in one of the rooms heated by the radiators. The bottom of the tank is at substantially the same level as the bottom of the water chamber of he boiler 1 which feeds it. The return conduit 9 from the accumulator tank 2 to the boiler 1, instead of communicating through the tank wall near the bottom as at 9a, does so at the same level as the supply pipe 8 but communicates with the bottom part of the tank only, by way of a conduit 10 which is of large bore and which may be a channel member, Fig. 1a or a sheet metal tube and may be covered with insulation 11 such as cork. This arrangement is said to obviate the return of hot water to the boiler when the firing of the latter ceases. In one embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the pipes 8, 9 pass through the wall of the accumulator tank 2 near its top and in this embodiment, sheet metal flues of the boiler may have a surrounding water jacket communicating with the tank 2. An expansion tank may fit loosely in the top of the tank 2 as a cover, Fig. 3 (not shown).
