Class 137 A ridge roof ventilator of the kind comprising two side walls 1 joined to two end plates 7 to form a throat which is covered by a pair of adjustable flaps 9 hinged to a ridge rod, and a pair of inwardly facing side baffles 15 fixed between the end plates 7, is characterized in that an anti-splash guard 23 is bolted to the upper flange 5 of each side wall 1 to prevent water &c. rising off the roof during rain storms &c. from entering the throat of the ventilator. In a modification, Fig. 2, cover flaps 14 are hinged to a ridge member 13, side baffles 28 and anti-splash guards 32 being secured between end plates 26 secured by brackets 24 to end walls 12 which are joined to side walls 2 to form the throat of the ventilator. The outer ends of the flaps 14 are hooked at 20 to form strain ducts, the inner edges of the flaps being turned over to provide a stop when co-operating with the vertical stem of the ridge member 13. Each flap 14 has two downwardly depending end portions which fit over the end walls 2 when the flap is closed. In a further modification the covering flaps are downwardly curved to extend, when closed, over the side walls, an upwardly converse anti-splash guard being used. Flap operating mechanism comprises a link chain 62 in a tube 60 each link having teeth 64 engaged by a worm wheel 66 on a shaft 68 which is journalled in bearings on a bracket 70 and carries a pulley 72 grooved to receive an operating cord 74. The end of the chain 62 carries a pin 75 which is guided in a slot 76 in the tube 60 and carries a bar 77 coupled by links 78 to brackets 80 on the underside of the flaps 9.
