Abstract

824,645. Edge-trimmers. REID, P. R. Feb. 13, 1956 [Feb. 11, 1955], No. 4134 /55. Class 6(2). An edge-trimmer comprises a bladed cutting device 1, which may be either cylindrical or conical, mounted on the machine with its axis substantially horizontal and respectively at right angles to, or otherwise inclined to, the axis of the roller 2 of the machine, so that the edges of the blades, when in their operative position, will be parallel to the edge of the lawn. The cutting device is driven from the roller 2 and is carried by a frame 11 adjustably mounted on the main frame of the machine by means of bolts 12 passing through slots 13 in the frame 11. The machine also comprises a ledger blade 6, a guide plate 9 serving to guide uncut grass into the path of the cutting device, and a shield 7 to guide the cut grass into a container 8. The cutting device may be driven in either a clockwise or anticlockwise direction, depending on whether the ledger blade 6 is above or below the level of the edge of the lawn.
