Abstract
822,913. Loading road vehicles or rail vehicles. SOC. POUR L'UNION DES TRANSPORTS FERROVIAIRES ET ROUTIERS. April 11, 1956, No. 11067/56. Class 78 (4). An adapter can be secured to the rest bar of a semi-trailer 30 (Fig. 1) to adapt it to run on tracks 16 on a carrier rail vehicle 10. Flanges on the insides of the road wheels of the semitrailer run on the same track. The adapter includes a beam 40 (Fig. 4) joining the legs 35 of the rest bar and carrying wheels 53 which can be held on the track 16 by members 60. In the form illustrated the beam 40 includes a circular trough portion 41 receiving the wheels 36 on the telescoping rest bar 35 and the wheels 53 have enlarged portions 52 for engaging the ground. In an alternative construction, however, the portions 52 are omitted and the beam 40 is of skeleton construction so that the wheels 36 project below the wheels 53 to engage the ground. The beam 40 is secured in position by members 45 overlying two of the wheels 36 and secured by hook bolts 48 to a flange 43 on the beam 40. The members 60 are pivoted to the beam 40 about longitudinal axes and can be moved simultaneously to the retaining position illustrated by handles (not shown) provided on both sides of the adapter.
