Abstract

821,756. Valves. ALLEY & MACLELLAN Ltd. July 17, 1957, No. 22633/57. Class 135. A gate valve comprises a body portion 1 having a flow passage therethrough, a pair of spaced annular metal seats 11, 12 disposed about the passage way, a movable gate member 2, adapted to be moved into and out of the space between the seats 11, 12, the two sides of the gate member 2 having annular facing rings 13, 14 capable of forming a metal-to-metal seal with the seats 11, 12, and two annular resilient sealing members 18 disposed in either the valve seats 11, 12 or the facing rings 13, 14 and adapted to be deformed upon closing of the valve to form a fluid-tight seal. The sealing members 18 comprise "O" rings of circular cross-section and are accommodated in slots 17 in the valve seats or facing rings, which slots may be dove-tail in shape. The annular metal valve seats or facing rings may be composed of two annular parts which co-operate to form the dove-tail slots. The two valve seats 11, 12 may be secured to the valve body by a screwthread arrangement.
