Abstract

Foaming of boiler feed water is prevented by adding a small amount of polyoxyether formed by condensing a tri-hydric aliphatic alcohol of 3 to 6 C atoms (e.g. glycerol or hexane triol) with ethylene oxide and propylene oxide, and having a molecular weight of 1500-6000. Where the water contains magnesium salts small quantities of tannin, sodium lignin sulphonate, or hydrolysed lignin sulphonates may also be added. U.S.A. Specification 2,733,272 is referred to.
