Abstract

819,857. Boring earth &c. MAUNSELL, G. A. March 7, 1958, No. 7353/58. Classes 68(2) and 85 A marine drilling platform comprises a platform P connected by struts E, F and H to two cylindrical concrete floats X and Y. A compressor mounted on the platform supplies air for blowing out the floats. In raising the platform to float on the surface the float X is first emptied of water and lateral stability is maintained by the float Y resting on the sea bed. When the float X is on the surface and able to exert a righting movement to counteract sideways heel, then the float Y is emptied. A reverse procedure to followed when sinking the structure. Each float contains horizontal anti-surge baffles.
