Abstract

1,257,663. Off-shore structures. SOC. ENTREPOSE GTM POUR LES TRAVAUX PETROLIERS MARITIMES (E.T.P.M.) S.A.R.L. 9 May, 1969 [10 May, 1968], No. 23802/69. Heading E1H. A floatable structure suitable for drilling operations in subaqueous ground comprises a base having tubular floats 2 extending between three floats 1 bearing vertically-orientated elongate tanks 3, and a tower formed by three columns 4 and members 5 and carrying a buoyant vertically-movable triangular-platform 8. When the structure is being moved to or from the site, the platform is situated at the bottom of the tower to aid the floats and tanks in keeping the structure floating at the surface of the water. The structure is brought to rest on the subaqueous ground by flooding the floats 1 and tanks 3 gradually while the platform is raised relative to the base, so as to maintain the stability of the structure. When the structure is in situ the platform is raised above the surface of the water and the tanks 3 are removed. The structure may be modified such that the platform is circumjacent the tower, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown). In another embodiment, Figs. 4 to 6 (not shown), the base comprises a domed circular-tank (10) for storage of e.g. natural gas, and a toroidal hollow member (11) at the perimeter of said tank.
