Abstract
817,310. Band clamps. RENFROE, R. L. Sept. 3, 1957, No. 27726/57. Class 44 [Also in Group XXX] A band clamp comprises a split circular resilient band 1 and an adjustable toggle locking mechanism whereby the ends of the band are brought towards each other, said mechanism comprising a lever 5 pivotally disposed in lugs 2 on one end of the band 1 and having rigidly attached thereto a connecting link 4. The latter is pivotally connected at its other end to a pin 7 between the forked ends 3 of a cradle 6 which, in a threaded collar 9 thereon, carries an adjusting bolt 8 for engagement with a stud 10 which is secured to a second part band 11 bolted at 12, 13 to the other end of the band 1. By means of the bolt 8 the band clamp can fit drums and barrels of various diameters, the band being clamped to the drum or barrel 17 by turning the lever 5, at the end of which movement the forked ends 3 of the cradle 6 lie between the lugs 2 and the lever 5 is received in a notch 24 in the forked ends 3. A number of lugs 14 may be attached to the band 1 to overlap the top of the drum or barrel 17 for positioning of the clamp and for preventing the drum or barrel from passing through the band 1 should the barrel become upset during handling thereof, for which latter purpose a chain sling may be attached to the band 1 by means of brackets 16.
