Abstract
816,542. Sockets. VERWALTUNGSGES DER WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Aug. 2,1957 [Sept. 6, 1956], No. 24566/57. Class 83 (3). In a socket for mounting a tool, chuck, &c. on a machine-tool spindle, the connection is by a bayonet joint and clamping by components movable transversely by a rotatable-ring on the spindle. The spindle 1, Fig. 1, journalled in a sleeve 2, has a conical socket 3 and a flange 4 engaging a cone 7 and flange 8 of the tool or chuck 5. The cone 7 has two wings 13, Fig. 4, engaging lugs 14 in the socket 3. An axiallyslidable pin 15, Fig. 1, in a bore 1<SP>1</SP> of the spindle 1, has extensions 16, 17, of unequal width, to pass through bayonet-slots in a bore 9 of the tool 5, and then be rotated in a recess 10 to lock behind lugs 9<SP>1</SP> of the tool and engage wings 13 with lugs 14 for a driving-connection. The clamping-means include two pressure-pins 22, 23 slidable in a transverse bore 21 in the spindle 1, and rollers 19, 27, the roller 19 being journalled at 20 in a slot 18 of the pin 15 and the roller 27 being inserted between roller 19 and a plate 25 resting on spindle 1. The pressure-pin 23, in a transverse bore 21 of the spindle and splined at 26 to a groove 24 in the bore, may be moved radially by an internal cam-surface 28<SP>1</SP> on a ring 28 rotatable on the spindle, thus moving roller 27 radially inwards and roller 19 vertically upwards to raise pin 15 and lock the tool axially by the extensions 16, 17. To release the tool, reverse rotation of ring 28 allows the spring-plunger 22 to move roller 27 radially outwards and a spring 32 to move pin 15 downwards, releasing axial pressure on extensions 16, 17 so that the tool may be rotated to disengage the bayonet connection. The roller 27 is preferably in line with the axis of pin 15 when in the clamped position, to give a toggleaction during clamping.
