Abstract

1,172,963. Chucks. G. CLANCEY. 26 Jan., 1968, No. 4201/68. Heading B3B. An adjustable collet chuck for an automatic multi-spindle lathe comprises a collet 10 which is adjustable over a limited range within a chuck body 8 by means of a ring 30 that is threadably engaged with a plate 15. When adjusted to the required size the collet is operated by a spool 24 movable within a work spindle 5 and connected to a sleeve 19 to which .the plate 15 is attached. Springs 25 release the chuck. The ring 30 is locked relative to the plate 15 by a locking screw. The chuck may be mounted to an adaptor spindle nose (37), (Fig. 4, not shown), which is then mounted on the work spindle 5. The collet may comprise blades set in a resilient, e.g. rubber, body; or separate blades movable in radial slots in a steel body.
