Abstract
The invention comprises isothiouronium compounds having the formula <FORM:0815827/IV (b)/1> wherein R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having from 8 to 18 carbon atoms, preferably in which the radicals are derived from animal or vegetable oil fatty acids such as coconut oil fatty acids, and X is either chlorine or bromine, the preparation thereof by reacting equimolar quantities of thiourea and aliphatic halides, and plant-fungicidal compositions containing them (see Group VI). In an example lauryl-isothioronium bromine is produced by refluxing lauryl bromide and thiourea in alcohol. Other specified compounds are: S-octylisothiouronium chloride, S-"coco"isothiouronium bromide, S-"coco"isothiouronium chloride, S-tetradecylisothiouronium chloride, S-"tallow"isothiouronium chloride.ALSO:A plant-fungicidal composition comprises a carrier and an effective non-phytotoxic concentration of a compound having the general formula <FORM:0815827/VI/1> where R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having from 8 to 18 carbon atoms, e.g. n-alkyl radicals such as octyl, decyl, dodecyl, tetradecyl, pentadecyl, hexadecyl, heptacecyl and octadecyl and n-alkenyl radicals such as octadecenyl, octadecadienyl, and octadecatrienyl, and X is chlorine or bromine. The n-aliphatic hydrocarbon radicals can also be employed as mixtures, e.g. as derived from animal and vegetable oil fatty acids like coconut oil, tallow, soybean oil, cottonseed oil. In the preferred compounds R is a mixture of radicals as derived from coconut oil acids and X is chlorine.
