Abstract

The invention relates to rhodanine compounds of the general formula <FORM:1099798/C2/1> in which R is an aliphatic group R111 is a hydrogen atom, and aliphatic oxy group or halogen atom, or where RO and R111 together constitute an alkylene dioxy group -O-A-O-(where A is alkylene) of which the two oxygen atoms are linked to adjacent carbon atoms of the benzene nucleus and R1 and R11 are each a hydrogen atom or an aliphatic group provided that not more than two or R1 and R11 and R111 are hydrogen atoms. The compounds may be prepared by reacting a salt of a dithiocarbamic acid of the general formula <FORM:1099798/C2/2> with an alpha-halo aliphatic mono-carboxylic acid of the formula HOCOCR1R11X, where R is a halogen atom or with a salt or ester thereof. Compounds in which RO and R111 together constitute an alkylene dioxy group -O-A-O-are prepared by reacting a salt of a dithiocarbamic acid having the general formula <FORM:1099798/C2/3> in which A is an alkylene group and the two O atoms are linked to adjacent C atoms of benzene nucleus with an alpha-halo-aliphatic monocarboxylic acid of the formula given above. Several examples are given.ALSO:Insecticidal compositions comprising active ingredients in the compounds of the general formula <FORM:1099798/A5-A6/1> in which R is an aliphatic group and R\yG is a hydrogen atom, an aliphaticoxy group or a halogen atom, or where RO and R\yG together constitute an alkylenedioxy gorup -O-A-O-(where A is alkylene) of which the two oxygen atoms are linked to adjacent carbon atoms of the benzene nucleus, and R\sv and R\yF are each a hydrogen atom or an aliphatic group, provided that not more than two of R\sv, R\yF and R\yG are hydrogen atoms, in admixture with a solid or liquid diluent with or without surface active agents or as an aerosol.
