Abstract

814,298. Colour television tubes. CHROMATIC TELEVISION LABORATORIES, Inc. Oct. 6,1955 [Oct. 18, 1954], No. 28450/55 Class 39(1). The linear conductors comprising the colour control electrode of a cathode ray tube are disposed as elements of a cylindrical surface the axis of which is parallel to one axis of symmetry of the multi-colour phosphor screen of the tube. The phosphor screen may be spherical, flat or barrel-shaped and the control grid is preferably concave towards the electron gun of the tube. The mathematical relationships between the parameters of the screen, the control grid and the deflecting means for the beam are discussed in the Specification. The two interleaved sets of wires 23, 25 comprising the grid are strung across notches 14 in a glass or ceramic end beam 15 of curved shape which rests on a frame 13, 13<SP>1</SP> and secured by hooks 171, 19<SP>1</SP> depending at right angles from continuous strips 17, 19 which are held to the beam by insulating cement. A strip of insulation 21 overlies the strip 19 and prevents contact of the wires 23 therewith. The laced wires hold the beam 15 securely against the frame. The wires are electron-optically centred on the red-andblue-sensitive phosphors of a 3 colour screen, a metallic layer e.g. aluminium, overlaying the phosphors.
