Class 79(2) [Also in Groups XXXII and XXXXIV] A centre bearing for vehicle propeller shaft assembly S is resiliently connected to a cross-member 18 of the chassis frame 1, and to reduce vibrations transmitted from the shaft to the chassis a vibration absorber is resiliently connected to the bearing, said absorber being an annular inertia weight R which encircles the shaft and is connected to the mounting plate 12 of the bearing by means of a rubber ring 20. The propeller shaft S is in two sections 4. 5 connected together by a universal joint 6, and between the hub 7 of the joint 6 and a shoulder 19 on the shaft 4 is clamped the inner race 8 of a ball bear-. ing; the outer race 10 of the latter is seated in a cup-like part 11 of the mounting plate 12 which is connected by a resilient mouting ring 14 to a support plate 15 having a flange 17 for attachment to the crossmember 18. In a modification, the ring 20 is replaced by resilient plugs preferably spaced equidistantly apart circumferentially of the weight R.
