Abstract
812,318. Tubular heat exchange elements. CALUMET & MECLA Inc. May 28, 1957 [July 16, 1956], No. 16924/57. Class 64(3) A tubular heat exchange element comprises an outer tube 12 having a smooth inner surface and a coaxial inner tube 14 secured, as by a shrinking operation, within the outer tube in heat tranfer relationship therewith, the wall of the inner tube except at the ends 16, 18 of that tube, being formed with either a helical corrugation (as shown) or with spaced annular corrugations. In use, the undulating surface of the inner tube produces turbulence in the fluid flowing therethrough, the other fluid flowing over the outer surface of the outer tube which surface may have a helical fin formed thereon.
