Abstract
811,751. Pipe joints. EDWARDES, D. M. Dec. 3, 1957 [Sept. 3, 1956], No. 26907/56. Class 99(1). A joint between two tubular members 1, 2, Fig. 1, comprises a socket 5 on the member 2 housing a resilient O-ring 7 engaged by a tapered spigot 3 on the member 1, the spigot and socket being screwed together to compress the O-ring 7. The O-ring is prevented from axial movement by an annular groove 6 in the socket. In a modified arrangement a socket 12, Fig. 2, and spigot 15 are drawn together to compress an O-ring 13 by a screwed sleeve 14. Alternatively the spigot and socket may each have a flange through which pass bolts to draw the spigot into the socket.
