Abstract

811,738. Coiling. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. June 28, 1956 [June 28, 1955; Aug. 31, 1955 (6)], No. 20086/56. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XL (b)] In apparatus for making a waveguide comprising a flat metal strip wound into a helix with its edges forming the inner and outer surfaces of the waveguide wall (see Group XL (b)), metal strip 40 is withdrawn from a reel 41 and wound on a mandrel 38 by a winder 37 rotated about the latter. The winding is facilitated by the engagement of the strip 40 in a recess 39 in the winder 37. Alternatively, the winder comprises a split ring 47, Fig. 22, deformed into a single-turn helix and secured to a sleeve 46 rotatable in a groove in the mandrel. The pitch of the helix is pre-set in conformity with the desired pitch of the wound strip 40.
