Abstract

810,256. Controlling light emission. SUNBEAM MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. May 31, 1957, No. 17323/57. Class 75(4) For varying the light emitted by a source e.g. the bulb 4 of an electric torch, a lens is provided having a central convex portion 9 and an annular plane portion 10, in conjunction with a reflector 11 shaped so as to direct the rays through the annular portion in a concentrated bean and an opaque member 12 movable to cut off the rays from the light source to the reflector. The lens is spaced from the light source so that the convex portion 9 produces a divergent beam. The opaque member may be of frusto-conical or of cylindrical shape and may be formed internally as a reflector The lens may be in one piece or may consist of a sheet of transparent material to which a central lenticular portion is attached. For changing the position of the opaque membr 12, it may be connected to an L-shaped strip 13 provided with a knob 15 movable in a slit in the side of the casing 1 of the torch.
