Class 97(1) A device for concentrating a light beam to form a small source of high intensity consists of a cone of heat-resisting transparent solid material having, at the apex, a slight flattening between 0.008 and 0.015 inch in diameter. The cone may be of quartz or heat resisting glass. The light beam is directed on to the base of the cone, being preferably concentrated thereon by an ellipsoidal reflector or by a hollow truncated internally reflecting cone aligned with the transparent cone.
