Abstract

809,157. Knitting - machines. PLANCK, A., [trading as FOUQUET-WERK, FRAUZ & PLANCK]. Oct. 19, 1955 [Oct. 25, 1954], No. 29918/55. Class 74 (2). In a rotary cylinder knitting-machine, in which the needles or needle sliders are operated by patterning bite 54 or 54a bearing butts into the path of which, at each selecting station, selecting cams 47 or 47a may be brought, under pattern control, each selecting cam is locked in its inoperative or its working position, as the case may be, immediately after each selection, and is subjected to the action of a first spring tending to return it to the inoperative position and a second, stronger spring, tending to move it into the working position this second spring being relaxed in the interval between consecutive selections and then, at the next selection, either tensioned to overcome the action of the first spring, or left relaxed so that the first spring may be effective. In Figs. 2 and 3, a slide 18 carrying feelers 20 is moved towards a card jacquard 15, 16, by springs 19. Any feeler which fails to find a hole in the operative card is forced to the right, Fig. 2, and locked in that operative position by a pawl 24 and, as the slide is moved away from the jacquard by a cam 32 rotating with the needle cylinder 11, any operative feeler rocks a corresponding lever 34 and so, through an associated wire 36, extends a spring 42 secured to the free end of one leg 44 of a corresponding member 46 of inverted U form, rockable about an axis 45. The extending of spring 42, which can overcome a weaker spring 50, prepares member 46 for movement to working position. The member 46 is temporarily held by abutment of a projection 64 on it with a bar 65 carried by levers 66. When, however, a cam 74, also rotating with the needle cylinder, depresses the bar, 65, through a bellcrank lever 72, 73, any member 46 whose spring 42 has been extended is rocked clockwise, Fig. 3, so that the cam 47 which is constituted by the free end of its other arm, is moved into the path of corresponding butts on the jailer 54, to rock any jacks bearing them. The pawls 24 are then rocked by a cam 76 to release their feelers for further selection. Each time the bar 65 is depressed, any member 46 whose spring 42 is relaxed, is retained in, or returned to its inoperative position by spring 50. A bar 71 acts as a stop in both positions of member 46. In the modification of Figs. 5 and 7, each pair of springs 42a, 50a controls movement, circumferentially of the machine, of an associated one of a series of arcuate members 82, which member, by reason of its inner profile 98, 99, can rock its selecting cam 47a inwardly to a position in which its nose 96 acts on any corresponding butts of rockable spring returned bits 54a. The members 82 are locked in each of their two positions by a detent 85, operated through a spring-returned stirrup 88 by a cam 90.
