Abstract

1283836 Knitting-machines UNIVERSAL MASCHINENFABRIK DR RUDOLF SCHIEBER KG 27 April 1970 [30 April 1969] 20171/70 Heading D1C A flat machine includes selecting mechanism comprising a rotatable pattern drum 6 on the carriage acting via control arms 22 on fingers 15 which through jacks 12 present the needles to their cams. A second, similar, drum is provided for selection in the opposite direction of reciprocation. The fingers are controlled by butts 21 in staggered formation across adjacent fingers, and are depressed to an intermediate or an inoperative level by low or high butts 23 in the drum. Jack butts 12 thereby engage cam 13 and raise the needles to tuck level, or miss it. In the absence of a butt 23 the finger remains operative and the jack butt engages a stepped extension of cam 13 so that the needles clear. The drum is indexed in either direction by pawls (33, 34 Fig. 5 not shown) at either end of a two-arm lever (35) mounted on its axle, and engaging a ratchet wheel (6b). The arm is rotated by engagement of a lug (35b) with a selectively displaceable rod (36).
