Abstract

Float or tuck stitch patterning is achieved on a circular machine having welt mechanism by providing frangible tooth butt jacks 23, Fig. 5, not shown, beneath the nucleus and a hump cam 46 Fig. 7, not shown which is slidably positioned to engage the lower end of each jack and project it outwardly so that its lowermost butt 25, Fig. 9, not shown, is positioned in the path of raising cams 51, 52, 53, 54 Fig. 4, not shown. Prior to the jacks being raised by the cam 54 selectors, pivotally mounted and actuated by a pattern drum, selectively depress some of the jacks to prevent their butts 25 engaging cam 54 thereby preventing selection of the compounding needles. The selectors may be further actuated in groups by control levers when it is desired to knit a continuous overall pattern.
